Open Mic at Flipnotics
Hey there all!
Well, we’re 5 months in to open mic at Flipnotics, and WOW. What a community has formed! Week after week, talented musicians take to the stage and play for a room of attentive, appreciative folks. Each week I’m blown away by the supportive nature of our open mic musicians.
We started out with a first to sign up, first to play format (now known as the “Mad Dash”). We received requests to switch to a lottery. We made the switch, and MAN, did that change the dynamic.
After a few weeks of trying the lottery, we’ve decided to go back to our “Mad Dash” ways.
Since we’ve made the switch, we’ve seen a return of the supportive, interested crowd that we’ve been encouraging since the beginning. More folks get a chance to play each week, and we’ve received lots of positive feedback!
We have also discontinued our featured performer slots so that we can get as many performers on stage as possible.
We hope you’ll come and check it out. We have a great time and know that you will too!

Matt the Electrician has released a new album! Animal Boy (available online, at Waterloo Records, or at Flipnotics any given Weds.!) has received rave reviews, and gets quite a bit of play in the shop. We think you should buy it. Now. Infectious melodies and fantastic writing make Matt a pleasure to listen to. Check him out every Weds. on our stage w/ Southpaw Jones!

Wow. The holiday season is upon us once again. In just a few short weeks, 2010 will make it’s debut. What a year we’ve had! We’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for making this year amazing! New ownership, new decks, and much needed renovations are just some of the things you’ve supported us through, and we thank you!
What’s New at Flipnotics?
Well, we’ve been busy little bees this year. First – we’ve built three beautiful, brand new decks…twice. Yes, it’s true. “The Tree House” has been rebuilt and is ready for your lounging pleasure. Nestled in the trees, The patios provide a serene place to study, read, write and catch up with friends.
NEW SEASONAL FAVORITES
We can’t lie – we’re pretty darn excited about our new menu items and seasonal specialty drinks. You asked, and we listened!
SOUP - We’ve teamed up with Casa de Luz to bring you VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE soups! Our soup is prepared fresh daily. Casa de Luz is a non-profit, macrobiotic restaurant and education center located just a few blocks from Flipnotics. We are honored to be the very first retail location to serve these delicious soups!
BAKED GOODS - As usual, Sugar Mama’s has wowed us with their seasonal favs! Cupcakes: Candy Cane, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip, and Gingerbread. Bars: Bourbon Pecan, Smores, Pumpkin Cheesecake. Cookies: Oatmeal Butterscotch cookies and Molasses. (Vegan? We’ve got some for you too!)

Flipnotics was proud to take part in Eat Local Week. We donated $1 from every specialty mocha sold between Dec. 5-12 to Urban Roots, a non-profit program that helps children grow – through farming and through life! ACL & Livestrong Specials Oct. 2-4, 2009
Hi everyone!
Flipnotics has lots of exciting things going on this ACL weekend! First, there will live music each night from some of the best musicians in town!!
Second, we will be selling bottled water, coffee, iced tea, beer, bandanas, shirts and more ACL necessities all weekend – outside our patio, in our parking lot, and in the shop!
Livestrong Day is a national event to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Flipnotics will proudly feature our Strawberry Mocha (hot and iced) all weekend in honor of Livestrong Day! 15% of the profits from this drink will be directly donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Our fundraising goal is $1000, and we need your help to reach it!
